The PCP drive rod (solid drive rod or hollow drive rod) is the core transmission component in the surface-driven PCP oil production system. Unlike conventional sucker rods for rod pumps, it transmits high-speed rotary motion and torque to lift crude oil to the surface. It is specially adapted to screw pumps and belongs to dedicated oil production equipment. The specifications, models, and grades need to be selected according to requirements such as pump hanging load.
Divided into two main categories, the choice depends on well depth, torque, and well trajectory.
Structure: Similar to conventional sucker rods, but with higher requirements for materials and connections, and high anti-torque threads at both ends.
Advantages: Simple structure, high tensile and torsional strength.
Applications: Mainly used in heavy oil wells, high sand cut wells, and deep wells.
Structure: Hollow rod body, the preferred rod type for PCP systems, with special connecting threads at both ends.
Advantages: Excellent torsional performance. Under the same weight, the torsional performance of the hollow section is far superior to that of the solid section, allowing greater torque transmission. The hollow inner hole can be used as a channel for hot washing and paraffin removal, chemical dosing, or cable passage, enabling non-stop operation. With the same outer diameter, it is lighter in weight, reducing axial load.
