The VED Surface Drive Unit is a reliable drive solution for Progressive Cavity Pumps (PCP). Its primary function is to support and drive the polished rod and sucker rod string, thereby rotating the downhole PCP to lift well fluids to the surface.
Upon shutdown, the anti-reversal device absorbs the reverse torque generated by the sucker rod string and the fallback of well fluid. This effectively prevents the unscrewing of rod connections, releases stored energy, and ensures the safety of both equipment and personnel.
Powered by electric motors, the VED Surface Drive Unit can be configured with either a single or dual motor setup, depending on the specific model of the Progressive Cavity Pump (PCP). The vertically mounted motors transmit power through a belt reduction system. Finally, via the polished rod clamp, this rotational force is transferred to the polished rod, driving the rotation of the sucker rod string and the rotor.
Configurable with one or two motors ranging from 45 to 150 kW, this unit is compatible with all models of downhole Progressive Cavity Pumps (PCPs) available on the market.
Featuring a single-stage belt reduction, the unit delivers high output speeds, making it ideal for high-displacement and high-speed operations.
The braking system is housed internally and utilizes a wet centrifugal drum brake structure. Crucially, the braking torque increases with rotational speed; this prevents the unscrewing of rod connections and eliminates safety hazards for subsequent operations.
Designed for high-speed and high-power performance, the unit operates smoothly without abnormal noise. Its low maintenance requirements save manpower and significantly reduce operating costs.

By matching with different motors, the unit is capable of driving all models of downhole Progressive Cavity Pumps (PCPs) currently available on the market.
Equipped with a surface-mounted VFD control cabinet, the system offers various protection functions. Simultaneously, it allows for convenient production adjustment by regulating motor speed through frequency control.
High-displacement PCPs generate extremely high reverse torque, which is difficult for conventional surface drive units to control reliably. The VED-style drum brake, however, ensures the safe and reliable release of all torque.
The surface equipment is installed directly onto the wellhead, while the PCP is lowered into the well along with the tubing and sucker rods. This design results in minimal maintenance workload.
The VED type surface drive unit is compatible with downhole progressive cavity pumps (PCPs) from various manufacturers and models. It is widely applied in multiple fields such as oilfields and coalbed methane, and can adapt to various wellhead installation configurations.
The unit features high overall efficiency and is equipped with a wet drum braking system. This not only prevents hazards caused by the reversal of the sucker rod but also eliminates the fire risk associated with sparks generated during braking.
We offer comprehensive supporting solutions tailored to user requirements or specific wellhead types. Our offerings include various control cabinets, motor power ratings, connection methods, and sealing options. We also provide customization services to fully meet your operational needs.
